Community Hero Spotlight: Rico Roodenburg
Today we're putting a new Community Hero in the spotlight:
Rico was nominated by our previous Community Hero,
Rico himself is grateful for the nomination: "What an honor, really great, and of course thanks to Joost!"
From service desk to functional administrator
Rico is a Senior Workspace Engineer within the Shared Service Center at Syntrophos. Alongside that role, he's also responsible for the functional management of TOPdesk. In his day-to-day work, he mainly uses TOPdesk for incident, change, problem, and operations management. As functional administrator, he also works on action sequences and integrations with external systems.
No need to reinvent the wheel
For Rico, the value of the Community lies mainly in the fresh insights and practical ideas he picks up for setting up processes smarter and more efficiently. He also finds knowledge sharing hugely valuable: "Why reinvent the wheel yourself when someone else has already come up with a good solution?" That saves organizations time, effort, and ultimately money too.
Spotting who's out before it becomes a problem
His favorite contribution so far is an action sequence that automatically adds an action to a ticket whenever the reporter is out of office. That way, you immediately see that someone is away, and until when. A small addition with a big effect: it prevents unnecessary frustration, speeds up handling, and helps keep the focus on incidents that actually need attention right away.
His tip for new members
"Don't be afraid to ask questions. There's no such thing as a stupid question." By asking questions and sharing experiences, Rico believes you're not just helping yourself, but everyone else in the Community too. Challenge each other, and learn from each other.
What he's proud of: automation that really takes work off people's hands
Thanks to his broad experience with IT systems, Rico has automated many processes through TOPdesk. Think of fully automated operational tasks via PowerShell, with the results fed straight back into TOPdesk through the API. He's also built solutions that check for expiring certificates and Entra secrets and automatically create tickets when action is needed.
He's also automated parts of the offboarding process, such as returning assigned hardware, complete with an instant SignRequest. These automations save time, reduce the chance of errors, and make the process more consistent.
Rico is a Community Hero because he shows how much you can gain by actively sharing knowledge, taking questions seriously, and smartly automating recurring tasks — freeing up more time for the work that really matters.
Thank you, Rico, for your valuable contribution to the TOPdesk Community 💙
