Our test environment has suddenly received what seems to be a half-baked version of the new structure for the knowledge base. At least i assume this is a first step in launching https://tip.topdesk.com/c/18-structure-the-knowledge-base- - the change does not seem to be described in the release notes.

For now, the ony change I am noticing is that all KIs containing other KIs change their name to FOLD- and get a new number. If this is the way this change is being implemented in environments, it is critical that we can manage this! We have important contents in some of the present “container” KIs, and if they suddenly change prefix and number it will not be good! 😬Also there are no settings for this visible as yet, for instance no possibility to customiza the FOLD- prefix.

So what is the plan and stages for implementing https://tip.topdesk.com/c/18-structure-the-knowledge-base- ?

This is indeed due to the Beta from last November. On the10th of December you have received an email that the Beta was closing and that a reseed of your test environment was needed as was announced before the Beta started. You can request the reseed via My TOPdesk.

To give an answer to the questions how the new explorer will be rolled out and what happens with the KI’s used for the structure of your knowledgebase:

  • You can decide when you do the transition to the new explorer. There will be a deadline after 6 months after release.
  • The KI’s that were used as structural items will be copied into a new folder item. The original KI and its data will become a child of the newly created folder also its prefix.
  • Folders will get their own prefix

I hope this clears up things. Don’t hesitate to reply or send me a personal message if you have any more questions.

Hi @Magne B.  could it be that you joined the recent BETA test for the knowledge explorer and did you follow the instructions that were send?
It sounds like something from the Beta tests. @Stefan van Opstal might also be able to shed some light on this.

Very reassuring, thank you! :-) Embarrassing that I didn’t catch that information in the mail...

It can happen, don’t worry about it. I know you’re busy fighting system fires and keeping applications in line 😉
