Today we’re shining a spotlight on ​@Christiaan Fousert  from Gemeente Schiedam. Robin nominated him with great enthusiasm: "He’s always active and so friendly! And he responded in such a kind and positive way to something I created."

Christiaan has been working at the municipality for 26 years, spending the last few as an application manager. After moving from the Service Desk to Application Management in 2024, he finally found— in his own words — “more time to focus on what I truly enjoy: diving deeper into TOPdesk.”

Not only does Christiaan manage TOPdesk, he also oversees the DMS system Corsa. He uses TOPdesk in several roles: as operator, SSP user, and especially as application manager. Within his organization, TOPdesk plays a central role. Incident Management, Change Management (both change and IDU processes), and Configuration Management are heavily relied on. Meanwhile, Christiaan and his colleagues are building a refreshed knowledge base that will play a key role in the new SSP.

The Power of the Community

What Christiaan appreciates most about the TOPdesk Community is the combination of approachability and true collegiality. Whenever he wants to learn how others solved a challenge, he simply asks a question — and before he knows it, he’s in conversation with other administrators. Just as happily, he helps others or contributes ideas. For him, that mutual learning is the heart of the community.

A definite highlight for Christiaan was the Community Meetup in December.
"Meeting everyone in person and learning from each other," he says — and that’s exactly what inspired him to become even more active.

Smart Solutions

Christiaan also approaches TOPdesk configuration in a clever way. One example he’s proud of is a practical Action Sequence that automatically follows up on calls waiting for the requester: a reminder after five working days, and automatic closure after ten.
"It’s nothing spectacular, but we’re really happy with it.”

In the coming period, he wants to explore Action Sequences even further — "there’s still so much fun and useful potential there."

 

His advice to new members is crystal clear:
“Ask your questions — there’s no question as silly as the one you don’t ask.”
“And if nobody knows the answer, it might just be a great tip to help improve TOPdesk.”

 

Christiaan is a Community Hero because he is positive, engaged, and incredibly supportive — and because he perfectly embodies what the community is all about: learning together and getting better together.
